I acknowledge, with gratitude and remorse, that my home and place of work is on the stolen, ancestral and traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. I acknowledge the genocide and forced removal taken by colonizers to wrongfully and illegally secure this land. I commit to engaging in self-education, self-reflection and self-awareness to recognize how I continue to perpetuate the mentality and actions of colonization in both my personal and professional life. With deep respect, I pay tribute to the Survivors of Indian residential schools with special remembrance for those who never returned home. With admiration in my heart, I celebrate the thriving and empowered Indigenous communities that continue to flourish today and pledge to do my part to work towards truth and reconciliation.
