AWCED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

What We Do: Provide financial compensation to individuals and their families struggling with eating disorders to help defray the cost of private treatment.

Why We Do It: We recognize that the cost of our private eating disorder treatment is a barrier to accessing services for many Albertans. We have developed the scholarship program to help make our high quality, evidence-based eating disorder treatment more accessible to those who need it.

Who Can Access It: The fund is designed to support those who need eating disorder treatment but are unable to afford it. This includes individuals and their families. Successful applications will have demonstrated a need for financial assistance, such as, low income or financial hardship or strain. Recipients can be individuals struggling with eating disorders or a loved one or family member of someone struggling with an eating disorder.

What Type of Treatment Can Be Accessed Through the Scholarship Program: The funds from the scholarship program are to be used for eating disorder treatment provided through the Alberta Wellness Center for Eating Disorders and can be used towards psychological counselling, dietetic support, group counselling, workshops, meal support services, or occupational therapy focused on eating disorder recovery and support.

How We Do It: 50% of all proceeds from our online store go toward the scholarship fund. This fund is used to cover the cost of eating disorder treatment at AWCED, for applicants who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance.

About Our Store: We sell products that promote fat liberation, health at every size, positive body image, body acceptance, and worth.

Types of Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is classified into two subtypes:
Characterized by severe limitation of food intake and an extreme focus on dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise to lose weight. Individuals with this type of Anorexia Nervosa avoid binge-eating or purging behaviors, relying instead on strict dietary control to manage their body shape and size.

Characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, where individuals consume large quantities of food in a short period while feeling a loss of control. These binge episodes are typically followed by “compensatory” behaviors, or purging, to manage weight. Purging methods may also include self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive physical activity.
